About Agadir

Agadir is Morocco's most popular beach resort and the sun guarantee of North Africa — with over 300 sunny days a year and a 9 km long sandy beach that stretches in a wide bay on the Atlantic. Completely rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1960, Agadir is a modern, open city that combines the charm of traditional Morocco with a beach holiday. The Corniche — Agadir's beach promenade — stretches for kilometers with cafés, restaurants, and hotels right on the golden sand. The beach is wide, flat, and family-friendly, and the water is pleasantly warm thanks to the Atlantic current — warmer than on the European Atlantic coast. The Kasbah — the old fortress on the hill above the city — is the only remnant of old Agadir and offers a spectacular panoramic view over the bay, especially at sunset. The Souk El Had — one of the largest markets in Morocco — offers everything from spices to argan oil to handmade jewelry on 12 hectares. Taghazout — 20 km to the north — is Morocco's surf mecca with perfect waves for beginners and advanced surfers. Paradise Valley — an oasis with natural pools and waterfalls in the Atlas Mountains — is a magical day trip. The argan oil cooperatives in the region showcase the traditional production of "liquid gold."

5 travel tips for Agadir

Insider knowledge that makes your holiday better.

No visa — Germans are visa-free in Morocco for up to 90 days. Agadir has an international airport with many charter flights.

Souk El Had — the entrances are numbered! Gate 1 for clothing, Gate 2 for spices, Gate 4 for handicrafts. Bargaining is a must!

Argan oil — real argan oil is golden (not light yellow). Buy in the cooperatives outside the city, not in the souk.

Taghazout — surf lessons for beginners cost about 30-40 € per session including board and wetsuit. November to April is the best time for waves.

Essaouira — 2.5 h to the north: UNESCO Medina, Game-of-Thrones filming location, and even better surfing. Perfect day trip.

Food & drink in Agadir

These specialties you must try!

Tajine — slowly braised stew in a clay pot: lamb with plums, chicken with olives, or fish — the soul of Morocco.
Couscous Fridays — traditional Friday dish: semolina with vegetables, lamb, and sweet raisins — served in every restaurant on Fridays.
Fresh fish at the harbor — choose fish at Port d'Agadir, have it grilled, and enjoy with bread and salad. Agree on the price beforehand!
Msemen — Moroccan layered pancakes: for breakfast with honey and butter or savory filled with cheese.
Thé à la Menthe — mint tea poured from a height: Morocco's national drink, sweet and ceremonially served.
