About Railay Beach

Railay Beach is a natural paradise that is only accessible by boat – even though it is located on the mainland. Massive limestone cliffs completely cut off the narrow peninsula from the road network, creating one of the most exclusive and spectacular beach destinations in Southeast Asia. The dramatic karst formations rise up to 300 meters vertically from the jungle, and at their base, four completely different beaches stretch out: West Railay with its wide white sand beach for sunbathers, East Railay with mangroves and a backpacker vibe, Phra Nang Cave Beach with the sacred princess cave, and Tonsai for the climbing scene. Railay is the epicenter of rock climbing in Southeast Asia. The porous, grippy limestone cliffs offer over 700 routes ranging from beginner to extreme climber, and dozens of climbing schools offer courses starting from half a day. The special feature: Many routes lead directly above the turquoise sea, and during Deep Water Soloing, climbers ascend without a rope over the water and simply let go if needed. This combination of world-class climbing and tropical paradise attracts an international community of adventurers, yogis, and digital nomads. Phra Nang Cave Beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. At its eastern end, there is a cave that serves as a shrine for the sea goddess Phra Nang and is adorned with flower offerings and phallic symbols – a fascinating example of Thai animism. From here, one can hike through the jungle to the lagoon, a hidden saltwater lake that is accessible at low tide via a steep climbing path. Railay can be reached by longtail boat from Ao Nang in 15 minutes or from Krabi Town in 45 minutes.
