The Planica cross-country skiing center, just a few kilometers away, is world-renowned for its giant ski flying hill and offers excellent trails in a breathtaking valley basin. The Vrsic Pass is the summer highlight and one of the most spectacular alpine passes in Europe. At an altitude of 1,611 meters, the road with 50 hairpin turns – each individually numbered – crosses the Julian Alps and connects Kranjska Gora with the Soca Valley. The Russian Chapel on the pass commemorates the prisoners of war who built the road during World War I. From the top, hikes lead to mountain huts and peaks with panoramic views all the way to the Adriatic. In summer, Kranjska Gora is a paradise for cyclists and hikers. The cycle path to Italy along the former railway line passes through tunnels and over viaducts, and the Zelenci Nature Reserve with its emerald green karst springs is a natural jewel. The nearby Soca Valley, accessible only via the Vrsic Pass, captivates with turquoise wild waters, kayaking, and canyoning. Kranjska Gora is only 90 kilometers from Ljubljana and 200 kilometers from Munich – perfect for a long weekend in the Alps.
