About Marbella

Marbella is the most glamorous beach resort on the Spanish Costa del Sol and the European counterpart to Saint-Tropez. The city on the southern coast of Andalusia combines kilometers of sandy beaches, an elegant old town, top-notch gastronomy, and a nightlife that attracts international jet-setters and celebrities. Puerto Banús — Marbella's legendary marina — is the place to see and be seen: superyachts, Ferraris, designer boutiques, and beach clubs. The old town (Casco Antiguo) is the charming counterpoint: whitewashed houses, narrow streets lined with orange trees, and the Plaza de los Naranjos — one of the most beautiful squares in Andalusia. The Golden Mile (Milla de Oro) between Marbella and Puerto Banús is lined with luxury villas, five-star hotels, and the famous Nikki Beach Club. But Marbella also has its down-to-earth side: the Mercado Central offers fresh fish and Andalusian specialties at local prices. The Sierra Blanca — the mountain range directly behind the city — offers hikes with views of the coast and, on clear days, all the way to Africa. The white villages of the hinterland (Ojén, Istán) are perfect half-day trips.

5 travel tips for Marbella

Insider knowledge that makes your holiday better.

No visa — EU/Schengen, ID card is sufficient. Flight to Málaga, then bus (ALSA, about 8 €) or rental car.

Puerto Banús — strolling in the evening and people-watching is free. Drinks in the bars, however, are expensive.

Chiringuito — beach restaurants are often cheaper than those in the city. Espeto de Sardinas is a must!

Old Town Lunch — at Plaza de los Naranjos, there are affordable daily menus (Menú del día, about 12-15 €).

Rental car — explore the Costa del Sol by car: Ronda (1.5 h), Granada (2 h), and Nerja (1 h) are perfect day trips.

Food & drink in Marbella

These specialties you must try!

Espeto de Sardinas — sardines grilled on a wooden skewer on the beach: THE dish of the Costa del Sol, rustic and perfect.
Gazpacho Andaluz — cold tomato soup: refreshing in summer, the best comes from Andalusia.
Gambas al Pil Pil — garlic shrimp in olive oil: sizzling and fragrant in the clay dish, bread for dipping is necessary.
Pescaíto Frito — fried small fish: a Málaga classic, best enjoyed in a chiringuito right by the beach.
Tinto de Verano — red wine with lemon soda: the summer drink of Andalusia, simpler and more refreshing than sangria.
