Cancun on the Caribbean coast of Mexico combines turquoise blue sea, a vibrant party scene, and ancient Maya culture into a travel destination of superlatives. The cenotes of the Yucatan Peninsula — natural limestone sinkholes filled with crystal-clear freshwater — offer unique swimming and diving experiences. Gran Cenote, Cenote Ik Kil, and Cenote Suytun are among the most spectacular. Isla Mujeres, just 20 minutes by ferry, enchants with Caribbean charm, colorful golf carts instead of cars, and the northernmost point of Mexico. The MUSA (Museo Subacuatico de Arte) is an underwater museum with over 500 life-sized sculptures on the seabed — accessible by snorkeling or diving. Downtown Cancun, away from the hotel zone, showcases authentic Mexico with Tacos al Pastor, Mercado 28, and lively plazas. The best travel time is from November to April, when temperatures are pleasant and the hurricane season is over.
