About Chihuahua

Chihuahua is the capital of the largest state in Mexico with the same name and the gateway to one of the most spectacular natural landscapes in the world: the Barrancas del Cobre — the Copper Canyon system, which is deeper and wider than the Grand Canyon. The city itself surprises with elegant colonial architecture and a rich revolutionary history. The Museo Casa de Pancho Villa — the former residence of the legendary revolutionary — is a fascinating museum with its bullet-riddled Dodge Tourer and personal belongings. The Catedral Metropolitana and the Palacio de Gobierno with its dramatic murals dominate the historic center. The Barrancas del Cobre (Copper Canyon) — a system of six interconnected canyons — can be reached by El Chepe, one of the most spectacular railway routes in the world, which runs 656 kilometers through 86 tunnels and over 37 bridges from Chihuahua to Los Mochis on the Pacific coast. The Mennonite communities in the surrounding area — German-descended settlers who have preserved their lifestyle since the 18th century — produce the famous Queso Menonita and live in a fascinating parallel world. The desert landscape of the Samalayuca Dunes offers surreal sand formations.
