About Playa Norte

Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres is regularly voted the most beautiful beach in Mexico and one of the best beaches in the world – and anyone who has felt the powdery white sand between their toes immediately understands why. The beach slopes extremely gently into the turquoise Caribbean water, allowing you to wade out dozens of meters with the water barely reaching hip height. This unique feature makes Playa Norte the perfect beach for families with small children and for anyone who wants to enjoy the water in absolute safety. Hammocks in the shallow water, shade-giving palm trees, and relaxed beach clubs like the legendary Buho's Beach Bar shape the atmosphere. Here, fresh ceviche, grilled fish, and ice-cold margaritas are served right to your sunbed while the sun slowly sets behind the Cancun skyline on the horizon. The sunset at Playa Norte is one of the most beautiful experiences in the Mexican Caribbean and attracts visitors to the island's west coast every evening. Getting there is incredibly easy: ferries run every 30 minutes from Cancun's Puerto Juarez and take only 15 to 20 minutes. Since Isla Mujeres is very compact, you can easily reach Playa Norte at the northern tip on foot, by golf cart, or by bicycle. Early morning or late afternoon offer the most pleasant conditions – at noon, the beach can get quite crowded, especially on weekends and during peak season.
