About Puebla

Puebla de los Angeles is a UNESCO World Heritage city east of Mexico City and a jewel of colonial architecture with over 2,600 protected buildings. The city is world-famous for its hand-painted Talavera tiles, which adorn countless facades, churches, and inner courtyards in vibrant shades of blue and yellow, as well as being the birthplace of Mole Poblano – arguably the most complex and famous sauce in Mexico, which combines up to 30 different ingredients. The historic center houses the magnificent cathedral with the tallest church towers in Mexico, the lavishly decorated Capilla del Rosario – often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world – and the lively Zocalo, which is considered one of the most beautiful main squares in the country. The Biblioteca Palafoxiana, established in 1646, was the first public library in the Americas and houses over 45,000 historical volumes in magnificent cedar wood shelves. The Los Sapos neighborhood is known for its antique dealers and weekend markets. Culinarily, Puebla is a paradise: in addition to Mole Poblano, it offers Chiles en Nogada – stuffed peppers with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds in the national colors – as well as Cemitas, generously topped sandwiches, and sweet Camotes. On clear days, the city offers a spectacular view of the snow-capped volcanoes Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl. The journey from Mexico City takes only two hours, making Puebla the perfect day or weekend trip.
