About San Miguel de Allende

San Miguel de Allende has been repeatedly voted the most beautiful city in the world and enchants visitors with perfectly preserved colonial architecture, colorful facades in warm terracotta and ochre tones, and an internationally renowned art scene. The UNESCO World Heritage city in the central highlands at an altitude of 1,900 meters has been a magnet for artists, writers, gallery owners, and expatriates from around the world for decades, giving it a unique cosmopolitan flair. The city's landmark is the neo-Gothic parish church La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel with its distinctive pink facade, which was allegedly designed by an indigenous builder based on postcards of European cathedrals. The Jardin Principal in front is the vibrant heart of the city, surrounded by cafes, restaurants, and shade-giving laurel trees. The city is home to dozens of galleries, the renowned Instituto Allende for art and Spanish courses, factories for handmade textiles, and one of the best culinary scenes in the country. It becomes particularly lively during the numerous festivals: Semana Santa with its elaborate processions, the jazz festival in November, and the spectacular La Alborada in September with fireworks at four in the morning. The surrounding area offers hot springs in La Gruta and Escondido Place, wineries in the emerging Guanajuato wine region, and the nearby silver city of Guanajuato. The pleasant temperatures between 15 and 28 degrees make San Miguel an ideal year-round travel destination.
