About Patagonia
Patagonia, the vast wilderness region at the southern end of South America, spans Argentina and Chile and is one of the last great untouched natural landscapes on Earth. From the massive glaciers of Los Glaciares National Park to the rugged granite towers of Torres del Paine and the endless steppes of the Pampa — Patagonia is a dream destination for adventurers and nature lovers. The Perito Moreno Glacier is the crown jewel: 250 square kilometers of turquoise ice that calves with a thunderous crash and is one of the few glaciers in the world that is still growing. The walkways opposite the 60-meter-high calving edge offer a natural spectacle like no other. El Chaltén, the trekking capital of Argentina, is the starting point for the hike to Fitz Roy, whose jagged silhouette became world-famous as the logo of Patagonia. Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, is the gateway to Antarctica and offers the Beagle Channel and the Tierra del Fuego National Park. In Punta Tombo, hundreds of thousands of Magellanic penguins gather, while Southern right whales, sea elephants, and orcas can be observed on the Valdés Peninsula. The best travel time is from November to March, although the Patagonian wind remains notoriously unpredictable.
