Chicken Buses (Camionetas)
The legendary chicken buses are converted US school buses, colorfully painted, with Latin American music at full volume, crowded and adventurous. They are the cheapest means of transport and connect virtually every place in the country. Prices: 1–3€ for multi-hour rides. Disadvantages: slow, no luggage compartment (backpack on the roof or on your lap), sometimes unsafe on certain routes. Experience it at least once — the chicken bus is a Guatemala experience in itself.
Tourist Shuttles
For most travelers, the best option: Minivans (8–15 people) that cover the main tourist routes. Door-to-door service (hotel pickup), AC, luggage space. Prices: 10–25€ per route. Bookable in any hotel, hostel, or travel agency. Important routes:

Lanchas (Boats)
On Lake Atitlán and on the Río Dulce, boats are the main means of transport. On Atitlán: Lanchas (motorboats) connect all lakeside villages, prices 10–25 GTQ per route. On the Río Dulce: Boats to Livingston (about 125 GTQ).
Domestic Flights
TAG Airlines flies from Guatemala City to Flores (Tikal) — 45 min instead of 8–10h by bus. Prices: from 80€ one-way. Worth it if you have little time. Small propeller planes, spectacular view over the rainforest.
Rental Cars
Possible, but not necessarily recommended. Guatemalan traffic is chaotic, roads in the highlands are narrow and winding, signage is poor. In Petén, roads can be impassable during the rainy season. If you do: international driver's license, comprehensive insurance, and an SUV are mandatory. Prices: from 35–50€/day.
