The classic tourist north coast with the most famous beaches and waterfalls of Jamaica.
Montego Bay
“MoBay" is the second largest city after Kingston and the most important tourism hub in Jamaica. Most international flights land here.
- Doctor's Cave Beach — iconic beach with clear, calm water; entry is inexpensive
- Hip Strip (Gloucester Avenue) — bars, restaurants, souvenirs
- Rose Hall Great House — colonial mansion with the legend of the "White Witch" Annie Palmer
- Greenwood Great House — originally preserved historic estate
- Martha Brae Rafting — peaceful river ride on a bamboo raft
- Sangster International Airport — directly on the bay, many resorts within driving distance
MoBay itself is busy and urban. Most tourists stay in resorts outside the center (Ironshore, Rose Hall) or in the all-inclusive strips along the coast.
Ocho Rios
Ocho Rios is located halfway between Montego Bay and Port Antonio — a cruise port and classic all-inclusive destination.
- Dunn's River Falls — 180 m high cascades that can be climbed in a guided chain. Perhaps the most famous Jamaican experience
- Mystic Mountain — bobsled track (Jamaican Bobsled film inspiration), zipline, cable car
- Blue Hole & Secret Falls — deeper Caribbean experience: climbing, jumping, swimming in natural pools
- Nine Mile — birthplace of Bob Marley, now a mausoleum and museum
- James Bond Beach (Oracabessa) — Ian Fleming wrote the Bond novels here; now a relaxed bathing spot
Negril
Negril at the westernmost point of Jamaica has the most beautiful beach on the island and one of the most famous sunset scenes in the Caribbean.
- Seven Mile Beach — 7-mile beach with white sand and calm waters
- Rick's Café — legendary sundown bar on a cliff, cliff diving
- West End Cliffs — cliffs in the afternoon, restaurants and bars with ocean views
- Royal Palm Reserve — swamp landscape, bird watching
- YS Falls (approx. 1-hour drive) — seven cascades, zipline
- Appleton Estate Rum Tour (inland) — traditional distillery
Negril is more relaxed than MoBay or Ocho Rios, with a more hippie vibe — but also significantly more touristy than Port Antonio.
South Coast & Nature Experiences
The south coast of Jamaica is less known, but more authentic and unspoiled.
- Treasure Beach — quiet alternative to the all-inclusive resorts; guesthouses and boutique accommodations
- Pelican Bar — bar on a sandbank about a kilometer off the coast near Treasure Beach, only accessible by boat
- YS Falls — see above, very worthwhile
- Black River Safari — river safari with crocodiles
- Lover's Leap — dramatic cliff coastline
- Appleton Estate — rum distillery
