Birthplace of reggae, home of the Rastafari movement, and a Caribbean classic with dream beaches, jungles, the Blue Mountains, and one of the most vibrant music cultures in the world.
Why Jamaica?
Jamaica is not a typical Caribbean island — rather a cultural cosmos whose influence is felt worldwide. On 10,991 km² (slightly smaller than Schleswig-Holstein) you will find:
- Birthplace of reggae — Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Burning Spear; reggae has been a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage since 2018
- Dream beaches — Seven Mile Beach (Negril), Doctor's Cave Beach (Montego Bay), Frenchman's Cove (Port Antonio)
- Blue & John Crow Mountains — UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015 (natural and cultural heritage); home of the famous Blue Mountain Coffee
- YS Falls, Dunn's River Falls — waterfalls that become a climbing experience
- Jerk cuisine — spicy grilled meat, a culinary unique from Maroon tradition
- Patois — Jamaican Creole, developed from English and West African languages
- Rastafari — religious and cultural movement with its own philosophy
- Bob Marley Mausoleum in Nine Mile and the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston
Jamaica is exciting, but not generic. Those seeking pure picture-book Caribbean without surprises are better off on other islands. Those who appreciate character, history, music, and authenticity will love Jamaica.

Best value for money. Weather mostly very good, only occasional showers, fewer tourists. Ideal for flexible travelers.
Rainy Season: June–November
Higher temperatures (up to 33 °C), humidity, afternoon showers. Hurricane season June-November (main risk August-October). But: low prices, empty beaches, lush green landscape.

- Jamaica Carnival (April)
- Accompong Maroon Festival (January 6)
