Modern Architecture
Egypt continues to build great things in the 21st century:
- Grand Egyptian Museum (2024): Triangular facade, view of the pyramids, the largest archaeological museum in the world. A statement of modern Egyptian architecture.
- Bibliotheca Alexandrina (2002): Snøhetta's masterpiece — a slanted circular structure that sinks into the ground and resembles a rising sun. The granite facade with 120 alphabets is a work of art in itself.
- New Administrative Capital (NAC): 45 km east of Cairo, a completely new capital is emerging — with the tallest building in Africa (Iconic Tower, 385 m), a huge park, and space for 6.5 million inhabitants. A mega-project that embodies Egypt's ambitions.
