Amsterdam-Noord

Amsterdam-Noord is what Berlin-Kreuzberg was 15 years ago: raw, creative, in transition, and incredibly exciting. On the other side of the IJ (free ferry from Centraal Station, 5 min.) lies a former industrial area that has transformed into the city's most creative neighborhood.

Highlights

  • NDSM Shipyard: The former shipyard is now a vast creative area: street art on every wall, restaurants in industrial halls (Pllek, IJ-Kantine), festivals, flea markets, and the feeling of being at the pulse of a city constantly reinventing itself. On weekends: IJ-Hallen flea market (one of the largest in Europe!).
  • A'DAM Lookout: The observation tower in the former Shell Tower offers the best panoramic view over Amsterdam. On the roof: the swing “Over the Edge" — you swing 100 m above the IJ, the city beneath your feet. Admission: €14.50, swing: €6 extra. Below: the Sky Bar Madam with cocktails and views.
  • EYE Filmmuseum: The futuristic white building by the water is Amsterdam's film museum — with exhibitions on film history, a cinema with an arthouse program, and a café with the best terrace on the IJ. The terrace and foyer are free to access.
  • Nightlife: Noord has the best clubs in the city: Shelter (techno in a bunker under the A'DAM Tower), Tolhuistuin (garden stage for concerts and DJ sets), and changing pop-up events at the NDSM Shipyard.

💡 Tipp

The free GVB ferries from Amsterdam Centraal Station to Noord are an experience in themselves — the crossing takes 5 minutes and offers the best view of the skyline. Two lines: the Buiksloterweg ferry (to the EYE and A'DAM Tower) and the NDSM ferry (to the shipyard, 15 min.). Bicycles can be taken on board for free!
