Manly Beach & Ferry Ride★★

Manly Beach, Manly NSW 2095
Fähre: ca. 6:00–0:00 (alle 30 Min.)
Fähre: 7,65 AUD (Opal) | Schnorchel-Set: ab 20 AUD

The ferry ride from Circular Quay to Manly is one of the greatest commuter routes in the world — 30 minutes across the sparkling harbor, past the Opera House and through the Heads (the entrance to the harbor) with views of the open Pacific. The ferry costs only 7.65 AUD with an Opal Card and is better than any harbor cruise.

Manly itself is Sydney's most relaxed beach suburb — its own little world with a beach-town atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Corso, a pedestrian zone full of cafes and surf shops, connects the harbor beach with the ocean beach. The Manly Beach (ocean side) is less crowded than Bondi, has better waves for surfing, and a more relaxed atmosphere.

The main attraction: The Manly to Shelly Beach Walk — an easy coastal walk (20 minutes) to a sheltered bay inviting for snorkeling. Blue groper fish (up to 1 meter long) swim fearlessly around snorkelers here. Rent a mask and snorkel at the beach (from 20 AUD).

For ambitious hikers: The Manly Scenic Walkway (10 km, 3–4 hours) leads from the harbor through bushland, past hidden bays, and through the North Head National Park with dramatic cliffs and ocean views. One of the best urban walks in Australia.

💡 Tipp

Take the slow ferry (F1 Manly, 30 min.) instead of the Fast Ferry (18 min.) — the ride across the harbor is half the fun. Friday evening on the ferry with a drink and a view of the sunset over the skyline is a Sydney highlight that tourists often miss.
