Why Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic is much more than just all-inclusive and Punta Cana — it is the most diverse travel destination in the entire Caribbean. On 48,671 km² (about the size of Lower Saxony), the country unites an incredible range:

• 1,576 kilometers of coastline with over 400 beaches — from palm-lined dream beaches like Playa Rincón to secluded coves in the southwest
• Pico Duarte (3,098 m) — the highest mountain in the entire Caribbean, higher than anything east of the Mississippi
• The oldest city in the New World: Santo Domingo's Zona Colonial is a UNESCO World Heritage site — Columbus landed here, the first cathedral in the Americas stands here
• Humpback whales up close — every winter (January–March) thousands of humpback whales come to the bay of Samaná to mate. One of the best whale watching areas worldwide
• Merengue & Bachata — both music styles were born here and permeate every corner of everyday life. In 2019, Merengue was declared an intangible UNESCO World Heritage
• Larimar — a sky-blue mineral found only here, in the mountains near Barahona

The Dominican Republic shares the island Hispaniola with Haiti — the second-largest island in the Caribbean after Cuba. Unlike its neighbor, the "DomRep" has developed into one of the most popular long-haul destinations for German tourists: around 300,000 DACH tourists visit the country annually.

What makes the Dominican Republic special: You can stroll through the colonial history of the New World in the morning, snorkel at one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean at noon, ride through tropical rainforest to a waterfall in the afternoon, and drink fresh rum to Bachata sounds in the evening.
