Festivals & Cultural Life

Dubrovnik Summer Festival (Dubrovačke ljetne igre)

The Dubrovnik Summer Festival (July 10 – August 25) is one of Europe's oldest and most prestigious cultural festivals — since 1950. Theater, opera, concerts, and dance in the city's most spectacular settings: Hamlet at Fort Lovrijenac, chamber music in the Rector's Palace, opera at Luža Square. The combination of world-class performances and historic venues is unique.

Festa Svetog Vlaha (Feast of Saint Blaise)

On February 3, Dubrovnik celebrates its patron saint: Saint Blaise (Sveti Vlaho). Processions through the old town, flag bearers in historical costumes, relic parades, and masses. The festival is a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage and Dubrovnik's most important holiday — on this day, the city belongs to the locals, not the tourists.

Linđo — Traditional Dance

Linđo is the traditional dance of Dubrovnik and the Konavle region: a couple's dance with lively spins, accompanied by the Lijerica (a three-stringed instrument). The folklore group "Linđo" performs regularly in the summer at Lazareti (east of the old town) — a vibrant piece of Dalmatian culture.

The Rector's Palace as a Cultural Venue

The Rector's Palace (Knežev dvor) was the government center of the Republic of Ragusa — the rector (Doge) was not allowed to leave the palace during his one-month term! Today, it houses the City Museum: paintings, weapons, furniture, and coins from the republic's history. The atrium with its Gothic-Renaissance architecture is a masterpiece — and in summer, a venue for concerts. Admission: €12.
