Saving Tips

Fiji doesn't have to be expensive if you plan cleverly. Here are the best strategies:

  • Travel during the off-season (Nov–Apr): Resorts lower prices by 30–50%. The weather is still warm (26–31°C), and the short rain showers are hardly a bother.
  • Bula Pass / Yasawa Flyer: The Bula Pass offers flexible island hopping in the Yasawas at fixed prices. Cheaper than single tickets and you remain flexible.
  • Local restaurants in Nadi & Suva: In the market halls and curry restaurants away from the resorts, you can eat excellently for 4–8€. Fiji's Indian cuisine is great and affordable.
  • Meal plans in resorts: Many island resorts offer half-board or full-board packages — on remote islands, there are no alternatives, so booking upon arrival is worthwhile.
  • Snorkeling instead of diving: Many of the best reefs (especially in the Mamanucas and the coral reef off Taveuni) are accessible directly from the beach by snorkeling — for free!
  • Public buses on Viti Levu: The bus network on the main island is cheap and reliable (1–5 FJD per ride). Much cheaper than taxis or tours.
  • Refill water: Bottled water is expensive on the islands. Many resorts offer free drinking water for refilling — bring your own bottle!
  • Visit church on Sundays: An unforgettable experience that costs nothing. The Fijian church choirs are world-famous — harmonious singing in full attire.
