Fiji's 333 islands can be divided into three major travel regions, each with its own character:

Viti Levu — The Main Island

For whom: Explorers, culture fans, families, active vacationers
Fiji's largest island is the gateway to the archipelago: The international airport Nadi is located here, along with the capital Suva, the legendary Coral Coast with its resorts, and the wild highlands with rainforests and waterfalls. Viti Levu offers the most infrastructure and activities beyond the beaches.

Mamanuca & Yasawa — Island Paradises

For whom: Beach lovers, honeymooners, backpackers, snorkelers
The Mamanuca Islands (20+ islands west of Nadi) and the Yasawa Islands (a chain of 20 islands further north) are the Fiji from the travel brochure: powdery beaches, crystal-clear waters, spectacular coral reefs, and a range of accommodations from backpacker bure to 5-star resorts. The Mamanucas are accessible by boat in 30–90 minutes from Nadi, the Yasawas in 2–5 hours.

Vanua Levu & Taveuni — The Garden Islands

For whom: Divers, nature lovers, adventurers, seekers of tranquility
Fiji's second-largest island Vanua Levu with the center Savusavu and the nearby “Garden Island” Taveuni are for explorers seeking the authentic Fiji off the beaten tourist path. Taveuni is home to the Bouma National Park with spectacular waterfalls and the world-famous Rainbow Reef — one of the best diving spots in the world.
