Internet & Communication

Mobile Internet

Thanks to EU roaming, you can use your German mobile contract in Finland without additional costs — calling, surfing, and texting are included in your plan. Finland has one of the best network coverages in Europe — even in Lapland, the 4G/5G network is surprisingly good. Only in very remote wilderness areas and national parks might the signal be weak.

WLAN

Free WLAN is ubiquitous in Finland: hotels, cafés, restaurants, trains, buses, libraries, public buildings. The Oodi Library in Helsinki even has one of the fastest public WLANs in the world.

Useful Apps

  • HSL — Public transport in Helsinki (tickets, routes)
  • VR Matkalla — Finnish railways (tickets, schedules)
  • Onnibus — Long-distance bus tickets
  • My Aurora Forecast — Northern Lights forecast and alerts
  • Retkikartta.fi — Offline maps for national parks and hiking trails
  • MobilePay / Pivo — Finnish payment apps (optional)
