Money-Saving Tips

Florence doesn't have to break the bank if you plan smartly:

  • First Sunday of the month: All state museums are free — Uffizi, Accademia, Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, Bargello. Arrive early (queues!).
  • Firenze Card: €85 for 72 hours — access to 70+ museums and gardens, one-time entry per museum, skip-the-line. Worth it if visiting 3+ museums per day. Also available as Firenze Card+ (€7 extra) with public transport use.
  • Churches are free: Many of the most beautiful artworks are in churches — Santa Croce (€5, but masterpieces), San Miniato al Monte (free, breathtaking), Orsanmichele (free). Duomo entry: free (only dome/tower cost).
  • Aperitivo culture: In many bars, you get a cocktail including a buffet for €8–12 — bruschetta, pasta, salad, olives. This can replace an entire dinner.
  • Mercato Centrale & Sant'Ambrogio: Eat in the market halls instead of a restaurant: Lampredotto (€4), Schiacciata (€3–5), Pizza al taglio (€2–4 per slice), fresh fruit.
  • Water: Florence has wonderful tap water and numerous public drinking fountains (Nasoni). Bring a water bottle!
  • Online tickets: Always book Uffizi and Accademia online in advance — you save 1–3 hours of waiting time and secure your desired time slot (reservation fee: €4, always worth it).
  • Free viewpoints: Piazzale Michelangelo (Bus 12/13), San Miniato al Monte, Forte Belvedere, Bardini Garden (with Firenze Card) — the best views cost nothing.
