Príncipe Real — The Trendy District
Príncipe Real is Lisbon's fastest-growing trendy district — a green hill above Bairro Alto with the city's most beautiful park, concept stores, the best brunch cafés, and a strong LGBTQ+ community.
Jardim do Príncipe Real
The small park in the center of the district is dominated by a massive cedar growing over an iron frame, creating a natural shaded area — Lisbon's most beautiful spot for sitting, reading, and people-watching. On Saturdays, a organic market takes place here.
Shopping & Concept Stores
- Embaixada: A concept store collective in a 19th-century neo-Moorish palace — 19 small shops with Portuguese design, fashion, cosmetics, and crafts. Worth a visit for the architecture alone.
- A Vida Portuguesa: The best store for authentic Portuguese products: soaps from Claus Porto, sardine cans, azulejo magnets, Pastéis-de-Nata molds. The perfect souvenir shop.
Food & Drink
- O Velho Eurico: Traditional Tasca with a handwritten menu and the best value for money in the district. Daily dish with wine: 8–12€.
- Landeau Chocolate: The best chocolate cake in Lisbon — dense, moist, intense. A slice (4.50€) and an espresso: the perfect afternoon ritual.
- Copenhagen Coffee Lab: Specialty coffee in a bright, minimalist space. The best flat white in the city.
Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara
Right at the top end of the Elevador da Glória is this two-tiered viewpoint overlooking Baixa, the Castelo, and the Tagus. Above: formal garden with fountains. Below: shady benches and a kiosk bar. Free and a perfect spot for sunset — less crowded than the Miradouros of Alfama.
