Packing List Malta
Malta is straightforward when it comes to packing — but there are a few things you shouldn't forget:
Always with you
- Adapter (Type G): British plugs! No charging without an adapter.
- Sunscreen SPF 50: The sun is more intense than you think. Available in supermarkets in Malta, but more expensive.
- Sun hat & sunglasses: Essential, especially for temple visits and cliff walks.
- Water shoes (Aquashoes): Indispensable on rocky coasts and rock pools — the limestone is sharp-edged. In the sea, they protect against sea urchins.
- Reusable water bottle: Saves money and plastic. There are refill stations in many places.
For the summer (Jun–Sep)
- Light, bright clothing made of natural fibers (linen, cotton)
- Light sweater or cardigan for air-conditioned restaurants and buses
- Swimwear (obvious, but: always have it for spontaneous rock pool stops)
- Snorkel set (can also be rented on site, 5–10€/day)
For the winter (Oct–Mar)
- Rain jacket (it rains more often in winter, but usually short and intense)
- Warm layer for evenings (10–15°C can feel cool, especially with wind)
- Hiking boots for cliffs and countryside walks
For church visits
Malta is very Catholic, and there are dress codes in churches: shoulders and knees covered. Many churches offer loaner cloths, but it's easier to have a light scarf with you that you can wrap around if needed.
