Climate Overview
Mauritius is located in the Southern Hemisphere — the seasons are therefore opposite to Europe. The climate is tropical-maritime, moderated by the southeast trade winds. The island knows two main seasons:
| Season | Months | Temperature | Rain | Character |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Summer (humid-hot) | Nov–Apr | 25–33°C | Frequent, short showers | Hot, humid, cyclone season |
| Winter (dry-mild) | May–Oct | 18–26°C | Rare | Pleasant, dry, cooler evenings |
Water Temperature: Warm year-round — from 23°C in winter (July/August) to 28°C in summer (January/February). Diving and snorkeling are possible all year round.
Microclimates: The east coast is windier and rainier than the sheltered west coast. The highlands in the center (Curepipe, 500 m) are significantly cooler and foggier than the coast. The northwest coast around Grand Baie has the most sunshine hours and the least rainfall.
