South Island

The South Island — Te Waipounamu — is New Zealand's more dramatic face: The Southern Alps divide the land into two worlds, glaciers reach into the rainforest, fjords cut deep into the wilderness, and Queenstown has declared itself the adventure capital of the world. Less populated than the North Island, yet so overwhelmingly scenic that even the Kiwis call the South Island "The Mainland."
