Traveling with Children in Oman
Oman is an excellent destination for families — safer than most European countries, with a culture that adores children, and experiences that no PlayStation can replace.
What Children Love in Oman
- Wadi Bani Khalid: Natural pools for swimming, fish nibbling at feet, and rocks to climb — the perfect adventure playground
- Wahiba Sands: Dune bashing (roller coaster in the desert!), camel riding, sandboarding, starry skies, and campfires. Kids are thrilled
- Turtles (Ras al Jinz): Seeing children's eyes light up when a 100 kg turtle comes out of the sea — unforgettable. Suitable for children aged 5–6 and up (evening tour until about 11 pm)
- Dhow cruise (Musandam): Watching dolphins from the boat, snorkeling in warm bays, lunch on board — an adventure for the whole family
- Bimmah Sinkhole: Swimming in the turquoise natural crater — kids believe they are in a volcano!
Practical Tips for Families
- Car seat: Not always available in rental cars — bring your own or request when booking
- Heat: Children dehydrate faster than adults. Always have water, sun hat mandatory, avoid midday heat
- Hotels: Most 4–5★ hotels have children's pools, children's menus, and sometimes childcare (especially Shangri-La and Grand Hyatt)
- Hiking: Balcony Walk (Jebel Shams) only for children aged 10 and up and with experience — the path is exposed! Wadi Bani Khalid and the terrace villages on Jebel Akhdar are family-friendly
- Food: Omani cuisine is child-friendly: rice, grilled meat, flatbread. In international hotels, always children's menus
💡 Tipp
Omanis will love your children — expect constant attention, smiles, candy gifts, and invitations for tea. In restaurants, families with children often get the best table and extra service. Children are welcome in Oman — everywhere and always.
