Shopping Locations
- Mutrah Souq (Muscat): The best souq for souvenirs — frankincense, khanjar, silver, textiles. Haggling expected!
- Nizwa Souq: More authentic for silver and dates. Friday market for special finds
- Al Husn Souq (Salalah): The cheapest frankincense prices in the country. Directly from the producer
- Muscat Duty Free (Airport): Surprisingly good selection of Amouage, frankincense, and dates. Prices fair to cheap
- Lulu Hypermarket: For food souvenirs: dates, halwa, spices, kahwa in supermarket quality at fixed prices (no haggling)
💡 Tipp
Khanjar daggers are NOT allowed in carry-on luggage! In checked baggage, it's no problem. They will be confiscated at security control. Frankincense, rose water, and dates are hassle-free — even in carry-on, as long as the liquid rule (100ml) is observed. Rose water in bottles over 100ml belongs in checked luggage.
