Overview of Regions
Sweden stretches 1,574 kilometers from south to north — from the Öresund Bridge to the tripoint with Norway and Finland beyond the Arctic Circle. Three regions that could hardly be more different:
🏙️ Stockholm & Surroundings
For whom: City travelers, culture and design lovers, families
Sweden's capital spans 14 islands between Lake Mälaren and the Baltic Sea. Gamla Stan (Old Town), Vasa Museum, ABBA The Museum, Fotografiska, Södermalm with its hipster scene, and the endless archipelago with 30,000 islands. Stockholm combines history, design, and nature like no other European capital. Plan for 3–5 days.
🌿 Southern Sweden (Skåne, Gothenburg, Småland)
For whom: Foodies, families, Astrid Lindgren fans, road trippers
Malmö and the Öresund Bridge, Gothenburg's seafood culture and canals, Småland's endless forests with Glasriket and Astrid Lindgren's World in Vimmerby, the sunny island of Öland with its windmills and the royal summer residence Solliden. Sweden's most accessible region — reachable from Germany by train or over the bridge.
🏔️ Northern Sweden & Lapland
For whom: Adventurers, Northern Lights hunters, nature lovers, those seeking tranquility
Beyond the Arctic Circle begins another world: the ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, Northern Lights in Abisko, the Kungsleden long-distance hiking trail, Kiruna and its iron ore mine, the Sami culture with reindeer herds and joik singing, dog sledding tours under the polar light, and in summer the Midnight Sun. Sweden's wildest and most remote region.
