Climate Overview
Slovenia's climate is a miniature Europe: Three climate zones converge on an area smaller than Hesse. The result is enormous regional differences:
| Region | Summer (Jun–Aug) | Winter (Dec–Feb) | Special Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ljubljana & Central Slovenia | 20–30°C | -2 to 5°C | Continental, hot summers, cold winters |
| Julian Alps | 10–22°C | -10 to 0°C | Alpine, up to 3m of snow, short summers |
| Adriatic Coast | 25–32°C | 5–12°C | Mediterranean, mild, sunny |
| Eastern Slovenia | 20–30°C | -5 to 3°C | Continental, wine-growing climate, fog in autumn |
Precipitation is an important factor: The Julian Alps are among the rainiest regions in Europe — Bovec receives over 3,000 mm of rain per year (for comparison: Berlin has 570 mm). The coast and Eastern Slovenia are significantly drier. In general, it rains more frequently in Slovenia than in Germany, but the showers are often short and intense, followed by sunshine.
