K-Pop & Hallyu — The Korean Wave

The Hallyu (한류, "Korean Wave") is the greatest cultural phenomenon of the 21st century — a wave of Korean pop culture that has conquered the world: K-Pop, K-Drama, K-Beauty, K-Food, Korean films. What began in the 1990s with TV dramas in Asia is now a global cultural empire.

K-Pop

BTS (now back after military service), BLACKPINK, Stray Kids, NewJeans, aespa — K-Pop groups fill stadiums worldwide and dominate the Billboard charts. The system behind it: trainee program — young talents are trained for years in singing, dancing, languages, and media presence before debuting. The perfection of the product is unique.

Experience in Seoul: HYBE Insight (BTS Museum, Gangnam), K-Star Road (Apgujeong), live concerts in the major entertainment districts. Music shows (SBS Inkigayo, KBS Music Bank) are free — tickets through fan clubs.

K-Drama

Squid Game, Crash Landing on You, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Goblin — Korean dramas have a worldwide fan base. Many filming locations can be visited: Bukchon, the bridge at Banpo Hangang Park, Jeju Island. Netflix has invested billions in Korean productions.

K-Beauty

Korean skincare has revolutionized the global beauty industry: 10-step skincare routine, sheet masks, essences, serums, sunscreen as a religion. In Seoul: Myeongdong and Gangnam are K-Beauty meccas. Brands: Sulwhasoo (luxury), Innisfree, COSRX, Laneige.
