  • Tourist Police: 1155 (English-speaking, 24/7 — THIS is the number for tourists!)
  • Fire Department: 199

Tourist Police

The Tourist Police (recognizable by their black uniforms with "Tourist Police" inscription) is your first point of contact in case of problems: theft, fraud, accidents, language issues with the regular police. They speak English and are present in all tourist areas. The hotline 1155 is available around the clock.

In case of a scooter accident WITHOUT a helmet: Your travel insurance may refuse to cover! ALWAYS wear a helmet. The same applies if you drive without an international driver's license or under the influence of alcohol. Clarify BEFORE the trip what your insurance covers.
