Strikes (Sciopero)
Strikes are commonplace in Italy — buses, trains, subways, airports, sometimes even museums and gas stations can be affected. Strikes are announced 10 days in advance. During a strike, there are "fasce di garanzia" (guarantee time windows) where basic service is maintained (usually mornings 6–9 am and afternoons 5–8 pm). Check before traveling: scioperi.info or the websites of transport companies.
Achtung
Sciopero days are listed on scioperi.info. Always plan an alternative when traveling by train on a strike day (rental car, Flixbus). Airports are particularly affected by air traffic controller strikes — however, there are usually guarantee flights.
