Brooklyn Bridge & DUMBO
Brooklyn Bridge
The Brooklyn Bridge (1883) is the most iconic bridge in the world — and walking across it is one of the most unforgettable experiences in New York. The pedestrian promenade runs on an elevated level above the traffic lanes, with views of the Manhattan skyline, the East River, and the Statue of Liberty. The neo-Gothic stone towers and steel cables are perfect photo subjects.
- Direction: Best from Brooklyn to Manhattan — then you have the skyline in front of you. At sunset, the light on the skyscrapers is magical.
- Duration: About 30–40 minutes for the crossing (1.8 km). Expect stops for photos.
- Tip: Early morning (before 8 AM) or at sunset — during the day, the bridge is extremely crowded with tourists and cyclists.
DUMBO (Brooklyn)
DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) is the neighborhood at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side. The most famous Instagram spot in New York: Washington Street with the Manhattan Bridge in the background, framed by brick houses. Around it: the Brooklyn Bridge Park (waterfront park with playgrounds, carousel, and Manhattan skyline panorama), Jane's Carousel (historic carousel in a glass box, $2), Grimaldi's Pizza (under the bridge, legendary), and the Time Out Market (food hall with the best restaurants in Brooklyn under one roof).
💡 Tipp
The famous DUMBO photo (Manhattan Bridge between the brick buildings): Washington Street & Front Street. Best at sunset when the bridge glows golden. Early morning, the spot is empty — during the day, there's a selfie queue.
