Entry & Visa

Visa

Germans, Austrians, and Swiss do not need a visa for tourist stays up to 90 days. Extension for another 90 days is possible at the immigration office (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones) in Buenos Aires (about 5,000 ARS fee) or by a short trip to Uruguay (Buquebus ferry to Colonia del Sacramento, day trip!) or Brazil (at Iguazú).

  • Passport: Valid for at least 6 months beyond the stay
  • Return or onward flight ticket: May be required upon entry (rarely checked in practice, but better to have it)
  • Reciprocity Fee: Currently NOT required for Germans (as of 2025/2026)

Entry

Upon arrival at Ezeiza Airport (Buenos Aires), you will receive an entry stamp in your passport (90 days). No separate form needed. Passport control is efficient — rarely long waiting times. Since 2024, there are also electronic gates for biometric passports.

From Ezeiza Airport to the City Center

  • Tienda León (Shuttle Bus): To Terminal Madero (Puerto Madero) or Retiro. About 8,000 ARS, 45–60 min. The most reliable and affordable transfer
  • Taxi: Only book official taxis at the counter in the arrival hall (fixed price about 15,000–20,000 ARS). DO NOT take taxis outside the terminal!
  • Pre-booked Transfer: Through your hotel or a transfer service (most convenient option, about 25–40€)
  • Uber/Cabify: Work from Ezeiza, but are cheaper than taxis. Note: Officially not allowed at Ezeiza Airport — discreet meeting point on the parking deck

Customs

  • 400 cigarettes or 50 cigars
  • 2 liters of alcoholic beverages
  • Personal items and electronics
  • US Dollar Cash: No declaration required under 10,000 USD. Bring US dollars in cash — this is the most important travel tip for Argentina!
