Rudas Bath — Ottoman Heritage
The Rudas Gyógyfürdő is Budapest's oldest and most atmospheric thermal bath — founded in 1566 under Ottoman rule. The core area, the octagonal dome hall with the central pool, has remained almost unchanged for 450 years: light falls through star-shaped openings in the dome onto the steaming water — an atmosphere reminiscent of a Turkish hamam.
The Areas
- Ottoman Dome Hall: The centerpiece — the octagonal pool (36°C) under the original 16th-century dome. Four smaller pools (28–42°C) around it. Dark stone, subdued light, history in every joint. The most authentic bathing experience in Budapest.
- Swimming Pool: A modern swimming pool (annex) with daylight.
- Rooftop Pool: The rooftop pool (since 2014) is Rudas' trump card: A modern thermal pool on the roof of the historic bath with a 360° panorama over the Danube, the Gellért Hill silhouette, and the Elisabeth Bridge. Especially spectacular in the evening.
Night Bathing (Éjszakai Fürdőzés)
Every Friday and Saturday evening (22:00–4:00), Rudas transforms into a Night Spa: colorful lighting, DJ music, cocktails by the pool, and the rooftop pool under the starry sky. One of the most unique nightlife experiences in Europe — a party in a thermal bath. Admission: 7,600 HUF (19€).
