Termas de Puritama — Hot Springs in the Desert
Amidst a deep desert gorge, 30 km north of San Pedro on the way to the geysers, lie the Termas de Puritama — eight natural thermal spring pools connected by wooden walkways. The water has a constant temperature of 33–35°C and flows through a canyon of red rock, lined with cacti and desert plants.
The experience is surreal: You lie in warm, crystal-clear water, above you the deep blue desert sky, around you red rock walls — and all in absolute silence. The Termas are the perfect contrast after the icy morning hours at the geysers: Many tours make a stop here on the way back.
The pools vary in depth and warmth — the upper ones are hotter and quieter, the lower ones cooler and more accessible. The facility belongs to the luxury hotel Explora but is accessible to everyone.
💡 Tipp
It's best to come in the afternoon during the week — then you often have the pools almost to yourself. Bring a towel and swimwear! The entrance fee is steep, but the experience is worth it. Alternative: The free hot springs "Baños de Puritama" further up the valley — less comfortable, but free.
