The Four Seasons

Spring (April–May): The Best Travel Time

Pleasant temperatures (16–24°C), blooming bougainvillea, few tourists (except at Easter), and the first swimming enjoyment in May (water 19°C). The city walls without crowds, restaurants with available tables, and prices that haven't reached high-season levels yet. May is the perfect month for Dubrovnik: warm enough for swimming, empty enough to enjoy.

Summer (June–August): Beach and Bustle

Hot (28–35°C), crowded, and expensive — but with the best beach weather and the legendary Dubrovnik Summer Festival performances (Hamlet at Fort Lovrijenac!). July and August are peak season: The Old Town is overcrowded during the day, prices at their peak. The best strategy: visit the Old Town early in the morning, head to the beach at noon, return to Stradun in the evening when the cruise guests are gone.

Autumn (September–October): The Insider Tip Season

September offers a perfect balance with 24–27°C and warm sea (23°C). The crowds thin out, prices drop, the light is golden and soft. October gets cooler, but the Old Town is wonderfully quiet, restaurants cook at their peak, and the grape harvest on Pelješac makes wine tours particularly appealing.

Winter (November–March): Quiet and Authentic

Dubrovnik in winter is a hidden gem: 10–15°C, often sunny, hardly any tourists, affordable hotels. Not beach weather, but perfect for sightseeing without queues. The Old Town belongs to the locals, restaurants serve winter specialties, and the Christmas market on Stradun is charmingly small. However, many restaurants and hotels are closed.

💡 Tipp

The absolute best time to visit Dubrovnik is May or September: pleasant temperatures, swimmable sea, significantly fewer tourists than in the peak summer months, and the most beautiful lighting conditions. Avoid July/August if you can't stand crowds — the Old Town turns into a sardine can.
