Leith Walk & Shore
Leith Walk
The Leith Walk is the long, straight road that connects the city center with Leith — a 2 km walk or a short bus ride. The street itself is not an architectural highlight, but it is Edinburgh's most multicultural mile: Polish delis, Turkish bakeries, Indian restaurants, craft beer bars, and independent bookstores line up. Here, the real Edinburgh pulses, away from the tourist paths.
The Shore
The heart of Leith is The Shore — the historic harbor where the Water of Leith flows into the Firth of Forth. Cobblestones, historic warehouses, fishing boats, and one of the best concentrations of restaurants in Edinburgh:
- The Kitchin: Tom Kitchin's Michelin-starred restaurant — Scottish ingredients, French technique, legendary. Main courses from £35. Reservation weeks in advance.
- Fishers: A Leith classic right by the water — fresh fish, mussels, oysters, and a view of the boats. Main courses £15–28.
- The Kings Wark: Historic pub (since the 15th century) with excellent food and local ale. One of the most atmospheric pubs in Edinburgh.
- Roseleaf: Bar and bistro in a Victorian building — cocktails served in teacups, lovingly quirky interior, and excellent food.
