Gudauri — Skiing in the Caucasus
★★ Gudauri — Europe's Hidden Gem for Skiers
Gudauri is Georgia's largest and most modern ski resort—and an international insider tip for freeriders and skiers tired of crowded slopes. At 1,990–3,276 m altitude, located directly on the Georgian Military Highway, Gudauri offers:
- 57 km of slopes (22 lifts, mostly chairlifts and gondolas)
- Snow guarantee from December to April
- Legendary freeriding—vast untouched slopes off-piste, heli-skiing possible
- Ski pass: About 30–50 GEL (9–15€) per day—a fraction of the Alpine prices!
- Ski instructors: From 100 GEL (30€) per half-day
- Accommodations: Hotels and apartments from 40€/night
The infrastructure has greatly improved in recent years (new gondolas, hotels), but is still far from Alpine standards. That's part of the charm: fewer tourists, more snow, absurd prices.
Gudauri is 120 km north of Tbilisi (2h drive). Marshrutkas and shuttle buses run regularly during the ski season. Also feasible as a day trip from Tbilisi.
