Winter (December–February): Peak Season & Sun Guarantee
The Canarian winter is Gran Canaria's peak season: Thousands of Northern Europeans flee here from the cold. Daytime temperatures of 19–23°C in the south, pleasant 17–20°C in Las Palmas. Bathing water temperature: 19–20°C. It rarely rains and briefly. The mountains can be cloud-covered, but above the cloud cover, the sun often shines brightly. Hotels and flights are most expensive — book at least 2–3 months in advance.
Spring (March–May): The Perfect Time
For many connoisseurs, the best travel time ever: pleasant 22–25°C, nature blooms (especially in the north and in the mountains), fewer tourists than in winter, lower prices. The almond trees bloom in February/March, transforming the highlands into a sea of white. Easter is peak season with fiestas and processions.
Summer (June–September): Hot in the South, Perfect for Hiking
In the south, it gets really hot with 28–33°C, the sea reaches a delightful 22–24°C. However, occasional Calima episodes occur: hot, dusty winds from the Sahara, driving temperatures above 40°C and making the sky hazy (2–5 days, then over). Summer is ideal for the mountains, which are pleasantly warm instead of hot. Las Palmas benefits from a cooling sea breeze.
Autumn (October–November): Insider Tip
The water temperatures are at their peak with 23–24°C, the air is warm (23–27°C), and prices drop significantly after the summer season. Occasional short rain showers make the landscape green again. Perfect for hikers and beach lovers seeking tranquility.
