Camden Town & Shoreditch★★

London's alternative soul lives in Camden Town and Shoreditch — two districts that combine punk, street art, vintage, and international street food.

Camden Town

Camden Market is actually a labyrinth of several markets: Camden Lock Market (vintage clothing, crafts), Stables Market (in Victorian horse stables), and Camden Market Hall (street food from around the world). The streets around the Regent's Canal are colorful, loud, and full of character — giant boot sculptures on building facades, live music from every other shop, tattoo studios next to vintage shops. Amy Winehouse lived here; her statue stands at Stables Market.

At the Regent's Canal, you can walk from Camden to Little Venice (45 minutes) — past houseboats, the London Zoo, and through Regent's Park. One of the most beautiful walks in London.

Shoreditch & Brick Lane

Shoreditch in the East End is London's creative epicenter: street art of Banksy caliber on every corner (Rivington Street and the Village Underground are hotspots), concept stores, galleries, and some of the best bars and restaurants in London. Brick Lane is famous for curry houses (the Bengali community has been here since the 1970s), vintage markets (Sunday!), and the Beigel Bake — London's legendary 24-hour bakery, selling the best bagels in the city since 1974 (Salt Beef Beigel, £5).

The Columbia Road Flower Market (Sunday, 8:00–15:00) is one of London's most charming markets — a Victorian street full of flower vendors whose calls are as loud as they are entertaining.
