Budget & Costs
Great Britain is not a budget destination — London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and the Pound Sterling makes everything even more costly for Euro travelers. But: Outside London, prices drop significantly, and many of the best attractions (British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, all national parks) are free. The currency is the Pound Sterling (£). As of 2026: 1 £ ≈ 1.15–1.20 €.

Money-Saving Tips: Britain's national museums are free — British Museum, Tate Modern, National Gallery, V&A, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, all national museums in Edinburgh and Cardiff. This is unique in the world and saves hundreds of pounds. Pub lunches (often "Two for £20" offers) are cheaper than evening meals. Supermarkets like Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Marks & Spencer have excellent ready meals. BritRail Pass is worth it for frequent travelers. London tip: The Oyster Card or contactless credit card covers the daily maximum at 8.10 £ (Zone 1–2) — never pay more, no matter how often you travel.
