Overview of Great Britain's Regions

The United Kingdom consists of four nations: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland — each with its own identity, history, and (partly) its own government. Additionally, there are the Crown Dependencies like the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. On an area smaller than Germany, Great Britain unites an astonishing diversity.

🏙️ London

For whom: Culture lovers, foodies, history buffs, shoppers, theatergoers
The capital is a world unto itself: nine million people from over 200 nations, world-class museums (British Museum, Tate Modern, V&A — all free!), a restaurant scene that rivals Paris, theater, pubs, and parks. Big Ben, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace are the icons, but the real London is discovered in Camden, Shoreditch, Brixton, and the hidden gardens behind Georgian facades. Plan at least 4–5 days.

🏰 England

For whom: Romantics, hikers, history enthusiasts, literature lovers
Beyond London, England reveals a landscape that is gentle and dramatic at the same time. The Cotswolds with their honey-colored villages, the mysterious Stonehenge, the elegant Bath with its Roman baths, the university towns of Oxford and Cambridge, the wild Lake District (Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter!), the rugged coast of Cornwall, the medieval York, and Liverpool as a Beatles pilgrimage site.

⛰️ Scotland

For whom: Adventurers, whisky lovers, hikers, photographers
Scotland is wild, proud, and untamable. Edinburgh enchants with its dramatic old town and the castle on the volcano. The Highlands offer the loneliest and most sublime landscapes in Europe: Glencoe, Loch Ness, the Cairngorms. The Isle of Skye is a dreamscape of rock and mist. The Whisky Trail in Speyside is a pilgrimage for connoisseurs. Glasgow surprises with art, music, and the warmest hospitality in Great Britain.

🌲 Wales & Northern Ireland

For whom: Nature lovers, off-the-beaten-path travelers, hikers
Wales is Great Britain's best-kept secret: the Snowdonia National Park with its 1,000-meter peaks, the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast, the Welsh language on every sign, and castles (over 600!). Northern Ireland impresses with the Giant's Causeway, the revived city of Belfast, and the cinematic Dark Hedges.
