Dolomites★★★
The Dolomites (UNESCO World Heritage) are a mountain range of otherworldly beauty: pale limestone towers that glow pink, orange, and violet at sunset (the famous Enrosadüra), surrounded by emerald green meadows and dark coniferous forests. The Dolomites are a paradise both in summer (hiking, climbing, mountain biking) and winter (skiing in the Dolomiti Superski area).
Top Experiences
- Three Peaks (Tre Cime di Lavaredo) ★★★ — The most iconic rock towers in the Alps. The circular hike (9.5 km, 3–4h, medium difficulty) is one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. Starting point: Rifugio Auronzo (toll €30 for cars). Best time: June–October.
- Lake Braies (Lago di Braies) ★★ — The "Instagram Lake": emerald green water, wooden boats, Dolomite wall as a backdrop. Dreamily beautiful, but unfortunately chronically overcrowded. Tip: Arrive before 8 a.m. or in September/October.
- Seceda ★★★ — From St. Ulrich (Ortisei) in Val Gardena, the cable car goes up to 2,500 m. At the top: a grassy plateau with views of the Geisler Group — one of the most spectacular panoramas in the Alps.
- Cortina d'Ampezzo ★★ — The "St. Moritz of Italy", host of the Winter Olympics 2026. Chic, expensive, surrounded by majestic peaks. In winter: top-notch ski pass (Dolomiti Superski, 1,200 km of slopes, day pass from €70).
