Niagara Falls — Nature's Power Up Close★★★

Niagara Falls, Ontario (130 km südlich von Toronto)
Fälle: kostenlos, Hornblower: 35 CAD, Journey Behind the Falls: 26 CAD

The Niagara Falls are not a single waterfall, but three: the Horseshoe Falls (Canadian side, the spectacular horseshoe-shaped fall), the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls (both on the US side). Together, they plunge 2,800 cubic meters of water per second 57 meters down—that's six million cubic feet per minute. The sheer power is overwhelming: you can hear the roar a kilometer away, the spray rises 100 meters high, and on sunny days the falls create a permanent rainbow.

The Canadian side is the undisputed winner for views: From Table Rock, just meters from the edge of the Horseshoe Falls, you look directly into the roaring abyss. It is the closest, most intense contact with the falls—you feel the ground vibrate and get drenched, whether you wear the poncho or not.

Top Experiences

  • Hornblower Niagara Cruises: The boat goes right into the horseshoe fall. You will get soaked (rain ponchos are provided), but the view from below looking up at the 57-meter-high wall of water is etched into memory for a lifetime. 35 CAD, April–November.
  • Journey Behind the Falls: Tunnels behind the Horseshoe Falls, 46 meters behind the wall of water. Two viewing portals where you see the waterfall from INSIDE. 26 CAD.
  • Skylon Tower: 236-meter-high observation tower with revolving restaurant and the best panoramic view of all three falls. 17 CAD.
  • Niagara by Night: Every evening the falls are illuminated in color—red, blue, green, sometimes in seasonal colors. In summer, there are fireworks over the falls on Fridays.

💡 Tipp

The Niagara Falls are only 130 km from Toronto (about 1.5 hours). Take half a day for the falls and combine with the pretty town of Niagara-on-the-Lake (20 minutes further)—Canada's oldest town with Victorian architecture, theater, and excellent wineries (try the Ice Wine!).

Achtung

Clifton Hill behind the falls is a tourist trap with overpriced wax museums and haunted houses. Ignore it completely and focus on the falls themselves, the Hornblower, and Journey Behind the Falls.
