Why Colombia?
Colombia is South America's great comeback country — and one of the world's most exciting travel destinations. Just 20 years ago, the country was synonymous with drug wars and violence. Today, it is a trending destination that annually captivates millions of visitors with its overwhelming diversity. The transformation is real, palpable, and inspiring.
What makes Colombia so special? It is the only South American country with coasts on two oceans — the Caribbean and the Pacific. On an area three times the size of Germany, it combines:
- Caribbean dream beaches with turquoise waters, offshore coral islands, and the world's third-largest barrier reef off San Andrés
- The Andes — three mountain ranges with snow-capped peaks over 5,000 meters, high plateaus, and spectacular gorges
- The Amazon rainforest — the green heart of the planet, accessible from Leticia at the tri-border area with Brazil and Peru
- One of the most biodiverse regions on earth — Colombia is world No. 1 in bird species (almost 2,000!), No. 2 in plant species, and No. 2 in overall biodiversity
- Colonial splendor cities like Cartagena (UNESCO World Heritage), Villa de Leyva, and Barichara, which are among the most beautiful in South America
- The Coffee Zone with the world's tallest wax palms in the Cocora Valley and the planet's best coffee, directly from the finca
- Caño Cristales — the "Rainbow River," which glows in five colors and is considered the most beautiful river in the world
- Ciudad Perdida — a lost city in the jungle, 650 years older than Machu Picchu
Additionally, there are the Colombians themselves: a people of incredible warmth, joy of life, and hospitality. "Mi casa es tu casa" is not just an empty phrase here, but a lived culture. The music, the food, the festivals — Colombia pulses with energy. And the value for money is excellent: 30–50 euros per day are enough for comfortable travel.
