What does Santorini cost?
Santorini is significantly more expensive than the Greek mainland or Crete — comparable to Mykonos and about 30–50% above the Greek average. Prices vary greatly depending on location: A caldera hotel in Oia costs 3-5 times as much as a comparable room on the east side of the island. The high season (July/August) is another 50–100% more expensive than May or October.

Budget (60–90€ per day)
Yes, Santorini can be done cheaply — if you know how. Stay in guesthouses or hostels on the east side (Perissa, Kamari, Karterados), eat Gyros Pita and Souvlaki instead of caldera dinners, use the public buses (cheap and well-connected), and enjoy the many free highlights: sunset in Oia, hike from Fira to Oia, Perissa Beach, village strolls. The sunset costs nothing — only the location of the restaurant makes the price.
Mid-range (120–250€ per day)
A hotel in Fira or Firostefani with a caldera view, rental car or ATV, dining in good (but not overpriced) restaurants, a wine tasting, perhaps a boat tour to the volcano. This is the sweet spot for most travelers: You experience Santorini's magic without spending a fortune. Book accommodations in Firostefani or Imerovigli — caldera view like in Oia, but 30–50% cheaper.
Luxury (300–1,000€+ per day)
Cave hotel with private infinity pool in Oia, dinner in upscale caldera restaurants (Lycabettus, Selene), private catamaran tour at sunset, helicopter flight over the caldera. Santorini is one of the best luxury destinations in the world — and the hotels provide experiences that are absolutely worth their price. A sunset from your own pool over the caldera is priceless.

The best saving tip for Santorini: Stay in Perissa or Kamari (east side, 30–50% cheaper), rent a scooter or ATV for 25–35€/day, and drive to Oia for the sunset in the evening. This way, you have the beach during the day, caldera magic in the evening, and save hundreds of euros on accommodation.
