Climate Overview
Sardinia is located on the same latitude as Barcelona and Tunis — the climate is typically Mediterranean with long, dry summers and mild, wet winters. The island is large enough to exhibit significant climatic differences:
| Region | Summer (Jun–Aug) | Winter (Dec–Feb) | Special Feature |
|---|---|---|---|
| North Coast (Costa Smeralda) | 26–34°C | 8–15°C | Mistral wind from NW, refreshing |
| South Coast (Cagliari) | 28–38°C | 10–16°C | Warmest region, African influenced |
| West Coast (Alghero) | 25–33°C | 8–14°C | More wind and waves |
| Mountain Region (Gennargentu) | 18–28°C | 0 to 8°C | Snow in winter, cool in summer |
Water Temperatures: The sea warms up to 21–22°C from June and reaches its peak in August at 25–27°C. Even in October, 22°C is possible. The southern coast tends to be 1–2°C warmer than the north.
Mistral: The famous northwest wind blows particularly on the north and west coasts and can provide pleasant cooling in summer, but can also become unpleasant on exposed beaches. The east coast and sheltered bays remain unaffected. In winter, the Mistral brings stormy weather.
