Food & Drink in Edinburgh
Edinburgh's culinary scene has radically transformed in recent years. The city boasts several Michelin recommendations, a thriving street food culture, and of course, timeless classics:
Breakfast
The Full Scottish Breakfast is a meal for the whole day: eggs, bacon, Lorne sausage (square sausages!), haggis, black pudding, baked beans, toast, tattie scones, and mushrooms. Accompanied by strong tea. Included in B&Bs, in cafés £8–14.
Lunch & Dinner
- Grassmarket & Victoria Street: Variety from pubs to fine dining. Victoria Street (inspiration for Diagon Alley from Harry Potter) has restaurants and specialty shops.
- Leith: Edinburgh's culinary heart — from Michelin-starred restaurants to authentic chippies. The Shore by the harbor is particularly atmospheric.
- Stockbridge: Brunch culture, bakeries, and the Sunday farmers' market.
Must-try Dishes
- Haggis, Neeps & Tatties — The national dish. Also available as Haggis Bon Bons (fried bites) as a pub snack.
- Cullen Skink — Creamy smoked fish soup from Speyside. Comfort food at its finest.
- Scotch Pie — Small meat pie with spiced lamb. The classic snack.
- Cranachan — Dessert made from oats, whisky, cream, and raspberries. Perfect.
